Quality Control and Standardization of Herbal Raw Materials for Value Addition and Sustainable Development in North East
Traditional medicines have been considered to be important in healthcare of masses across the globe. Some of the well established
traditional medicinal systems, like Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy etc. are practiced, explicable or not,
with reports of miraculous therapeutic effects. These systems generally use raw herb/plant materials, their crude extracts or
the purified products. The herbal medicines may contain ingredients obtained from single or multiple herbs with no proper
validation, therefore, their consistency in efficacy sometimes is disparaging. It is, therefore, crucial to have data on chemical
characterization, standardization and quality assurance of herbal constituents, validated using modern scientific tools.
In view of above, the present workshop is proposed for advanced hands-on training on quality assurance and
standardization of locally available herbals for value addition and sustainable development. This will provide an opportunity to
PG and PhD students to master newer technologies used in drug development programs. The workshop will help in capacity
building and human resource development for expanding the horizons of plant-based research in North Eastern region of India.
